This ride gives you one of the best sections –
in a way that fits your time, your pace, and your ability.

  • 1 full day or 2 relaxed days

Difficulty:

  • Moderate (Some climbs – but very manageable at your own pace)

Best for:

  • Leisure cyclists wanting a challenge
  • Weekend riders
  • Anyone wanting a “proper coastal ride” without going extreme

Why This Ride Is Special

This is one of those rides that reminds you why you cycle.

You’re not just getting from A to B, you’re moving through constantly changing coastline:

  • Open sea views
  • Quiet back roads
  • Iconic landmarks like Lyme Regis Fossil Beach and Chesil Beach
  • Small villages where stopping for coffee feels part of the ride

When I first rode this section during my 5000-mile coastal journey, it stood out immediately.
It’s the kind of ride where you finish tired, but already thinking about when you can do the next one.

Not because it was the hardest.

But because it had that perfect balance of:

effort, reward, and variety

“No exaggeration – taking up cycling again in my 60s has been life-changing. Taking part in Alan’s RNLI ‘quests’ has improved my physical & mental health beyond my wildest dreams. The routes were fabulous & safe and took in wonderful places that I never would have visited. Thank you Alan!”

– Nigel, Bristol

“The first time I used my Swytch conversion kit was on a ride with Alan, my husband and a group of cyclists doing the last leg of Alan’s RNLI challenge (Weston-Super-Mere to Portishead). Alan gave me lots of tips on getting the most out of my kit and the route he’d picked was very ‘battery friendly’. I was so lucky my first electrified trip was with Alan – I just enjoyed the ride without worrying about the kit.”

– Cheryl, Bristol

“You can find a generic map anywhere, but these routes give you something special. They save you from nasty A-roads and highlight great hidden gems to visit along the way. I followed this route as part of a longer coastal adventure; this section is one of the most beautiful.”

– Andrew, Bristol
